Jerry R. Colca, Ph.D. Is the scientific founder and CSO of Cirius Therapeutics. His interest in the pharmacology in insulin sensitizers began with the initial development of pioglitazone in the Upjohn-Takeda partnership 40 years ago. Work from the companies he founded, MSDC and Cirius, including the discovery of the mitochondrial target responsible for the pleotropic pharmacology of the thiazolidinedione insulin sensitizers, has resulted in development of the second-generation insulin sensitizer CIR-0602K.
